Integrative Hypnotherapy for Anxiety About Life and Death

How integrative Hypnotherapy Helps Overcome Anxiety About Death – Summary

As an Integrative Hypnotherapist I combine a number of approaches to best support you in overcoming your anxiety about death: I use hypnosis as a tool to help you access the subconscious drivers of your problems and transformations; I use mindfulness, exposure-based and existential approaches to help you reach acceptance and use fear as a powerful positive resource; I use a transpersonal approach to help you go beyond your familiar self and world-view. Here, personal and spiritual growth can be set in motion; Underpinning all of this is my person-centred nature. Safety, authenticity and unconditional positive regard endure as fundamental aspects of our therapeutic relationship.

What Is Death Anxiety?

The fear of death and the drive to live exist at the heart of all life.

Is death an end, a transition, or does it simply not exist? If it is a transition, do we remember anything of our previous life? What must it be like to consider that you might, one day, have no memory of the people you love? These big questions can be mind-bending and overwhelming.

There may be a historic basis for your death anxiety. You may have lost someone close to you, or you may have come close to, or interacted with death yourself. On the other hand, you may not fully realise your anxiety is related to death. Perhaps instead that you are anxious and cannot put your finger on why
If the rawness of this fear is wilfully engaged change begins to unfold. The awareness that everything comes to an end can also initiate a deep value for life, motivating you to live purposefully and authentically in the service of others!

The impending approach of death

“Why do I get scared that I’m going to die every time my heart races?”
“I wish I wasn’t dying in this place, away from the people I love?”
“Why is death so painful for everyone?”
“I could be dead in a few days/weeks/months, how am I going to cope?”
“How can it be that someone as young as me/them can be allowed to die?”
“How will I be judged? What about all the bad things I did and good things I didn’t do?”

The existence, or absence of an afterlife

“Is there an afterlife, or parallel life at all? What if there is just nothing?”
“Will I remember anything of my previous life?”
“Will I be reincarnated to a good life? A parasitic wasp, or a cat in a nice home?”
“If I knew what was going to happen I wouldn’t be so anxious”
“Will I go to heaven, or hell?”
